We first met our staff on Saturday in a brief interlude between the airport and the Universal Studios hotel. They made took our passports and immunization records, made some modifications to our iPads and gave out instructions about the next two days. One man asked to see my videos, and I looked at him warily and asked why he wanted to see my videos. In general, I'm not a prude about people knowing what I'm watching, but what was THAT about? He wanted to see whether I had successfully downloaded them from the Internet. We DO seem to be the most techie family on the trip. Of course, there are only two or three FAMILIES on the trip. Later, I thought perhaps he worried I had a stash of porn... My rep is off to a great start.
Sunday night, after a vigorous day of Harry Potter, we returned to the Nat Geo hotel for a cocktail party and dinner and instructions about suitcases. At the dinner, the staff formally introduced themselves... many experts that have written and photographed and expeditions around the world. Our staff doctor is on her 29th trip. One expert has lived in most of the places where we stop.
Some people had yet to get started on the separation of bags for Peru, and the large bag had to be out at 9:15. The small bag was supposed to be down at breakfast by 6:40... the "second bus" with us departing on it was to meet at 7:40 (be there ten minutes early... At 7:30) for a 7:50 departure.
Last night I dreamed that Aili broke her arm at Tae Kwon Do the night before we were to leave, and I remember thinking, "Well, there's still time to get that taken care of! You can travel with a broken arm!"
